HOW TO Prepare a surface to apply Cobra Coatings

Although each surface and application would be different, there is a standard rule before getting your hands dirty. This is to prepare the surface, in most cases, implies sanding down existing defects, cleaning any residue and taping down to protect areas you don’t want painted. 

STEP 1: Cleaning and sanding.

  • Remove any rust, scale, or old paint by sandblasting, sanding, or using a wire brush.
  • Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any grease, oil, or contaminants. Use a degreaser if necessary.
  • Sand the surface with medium to coarse grit sandpaper to create a rough texture for better adhesion.
  • Wipe the surface clean with a solvent such as acetone or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Ensure the surface is completely dry before applying Cobra Yellow or Red.

STEP 2: Taping and protecting.

  • Once the surface is clear, is time to protect those precious areas.
  • Make sure you tape down with heavy duty masking tape, to avoid any leaks.
  • Cobra coatings is a strong 2k polyurethane, that once on the surface, is virtually impossible to remove.
  • Double check for missing areas. You check twice paint once.
